Here's a participatory one...

What's the first song that comes up on your iPod/mp3/cd/8track player? Come on, if you're reading this, just hit "comment" and give us a window to the life between your ears. Mine? "Not Alone" by Patty Griffin...not at all representative of what's generally on there but a good song anyway. How about you?

1) On the iPod: "Look for Me (I'll Be Around)" by Neko Case. I'm glad she came up first, because Frank got us tickets to her concert for my birthday, and saying that makes me sound much hipper than I really am.
2) On iTunes: "Margaret on the Guillotine" by Morrissey.
3) On our big huge 300-CD changer:
Something by Sigur Ros from their unpronounceable CD, "()". None of the tracks are titled. Go figure.

my ipod (not ipod, really) always starts with joanna newsom's "'en gallop'" it's the first song alphabetically and for some reason, whenever you navigate away from the music category to radio or whatever, you have to start at the beginning of the alphabet.

Well, I just checked, and I'm laughing, because the first song that comes up on my iPod if I just keep hitting enter is a Grease Megamix! Go grease lightening!! :) I didn't even know it was on there...

Right now my CD player at home has "I Am Like A Star" (the Primary song) first and my car has "Again I Go Unnoticed" by Dashboard Confessional.

"Lost Cause" by Beck from Sea Changes. One of my guitar students is playing this for her recital (which will consist of me and her playing in front of her brother and two of her friends), so we're figuring out all the changes.

On iTunes, the last thing I listened to was one of the songs from Michael Hicks's new album "Valentine St." He was one of my composition professors at BYU.

well hey! i like this participatory thing. especially the element of randomness, because i looooove randomness.

I-POD: "Time to get away" by LCD Soundsystem. I cannot get enough of the new album 'Sound of Silver'. No, I cannot.

I-TUNES: "Flugufrelsarinn" by Sigur Ros...this album, Agaetis Byrjun, has titled tracks but they are all unpronounce-able.

Apparently there's a Bentley warp that attracts Sigur Ros at crucial times. The social scientist in me is intrigued...must do a study.

The real first song on my iPod is a song by my brother Aaron entitled Get Wit Cho.

But these days the first song I go to is Saturday Waits by Loney Dear on his new album Loney, Noir. MAN! It's so good.

but the song that was in my head when i woke up this morning and can't seem to shake is "just the way you are" by billy joel. sometimes they just sneak up on you and won't let you go, right?
oh, a good one just came up in itunes: "antichrist television blues" off the new arcade fire.

Do you know what would be awesome (and by awesome, I mean totally sweet)? If we all sent in these tracks to one of us to make a playlist/CD/cousins album. I mean, if we all put in one or two songs we love right now, I'd be loving my life.

You can send them to me and I'll burn CDs for people, or you can just send them to me and I'll enjoy the bevy of good music.

Great idea and thanks for volunteering your services. I'll send along a couple of favorites...
